🌎 Culture Corner — Seasons Around the World

Seasons do not feel the same everywhere. Countries in different hemispheres have opposite seasonal calendars, and tropical regions may experience seasons differently from places with four strongly marked seasons.

🇧🇷 What about Brazil?

How would you describe the seasons and weather in your region of Brazil?

05 • Reading & Listening

📖 Four Seasons, Two Hemispheres

Read the text. Listen to the complete reading. Then answer the five questions.

Four Seasons, Two Hemispheres

Mia lives in Canada and her online friend Rafael lives in Brazil. In December, Mia often sees cold weather and sometimes snow. Rafael's December is usually much warmer because the two friends live in different hemispheres. They enjoy comparing the weather. Mia sends photos of winter coats and snowy streets, while Rafael talks about hot afternoons and summer activities. They learn that seasons can affect clothes, sports, school holidays and daily routines. Even within one country, however, weather can vary greatly from region to region.
